Photojournalism From A Student’s Eye

BINGO!

Stearns County Fair Flipbook

During this internship, myself and the other multimedia intern Breanna Roy have covered our fair share of parades, marching bands, festivals and fairs. One of the challenges, as any newspaper photographer will tell you, is trying to cover the same event in a different way. I love how Breanna covered a recent marching band feature and also the Sherburne County Fair. Today I tried my hand at my own county fair coverage at the Stearns County Fair. I added a bass drum to the track but I can’t hear it and I’m not sure if it is just because I am listening to it on my laptop, or if I didn’t make it loud enough.

Gammell stays young with the River Bats

Definitely one of my favorite assignments this summer. My photo editor, Dave Schwarz, suggested I follow 89-year-old Jim Gammell who sells programs and souvenirs at local sporting events. This was the first year that he had to use a walker to get around during the games.

Troops return from Iraq

Today St. Cloud Times photographer Kimm Anderson covered the last of four troop returns, after a two-year tour in Iraq. Last week I covered the return of Charlie Company to the Central Minnesota area. The resulting video had some parts I liked, and some parts I did not like. I am not quite sure why I didn’t pay more attention as I was filming the interview, I think maybe I was planning on covering it with B roll, but there is a pole coming out of his head, it’s overexposed, and not framed correctly. That being said, here it is:

Last video of June

The seventh video completed at my internship at the St. Cloud Times once again features a musical presentation.
