Photojournalism From A Student’s Eye

In case you were wondering…

…what Des Moines looks like (my Mom has been asking for pictures ever since I moved here).

Sorry, not journalism related but,

Third

I even bought the CD, for the first time in I don’t even know how long.

Your Medium is Dying

Saw a link to this bit of Simpson’s goodness on the Teach J blog.

The Paper

Okay, so I never really got that into “The Shot,” VH1’s reality tv show/competition about ten would-be fashion photographers, but I am fairly intrigued by The Paper (no not the Michael Keaton film, nor the Independent Lens featured documentary), MTV’s upcoming reality show which follows the student newspaper at Cypress Bay High School.  Maybe I should watch season 5 of The Wire first, for what I imagine might be a more realistic fake version of journalism, rather than what I imagine might end up being an overly dramatic yet “real” version of journalism.

Popurls and Alltop

As a photographer, I consider myself a fairly visual person. I love the large photos on web sites such as the Las Vegas Sun’s multimedia page. And yet, when I am reading news, for some reason I prefer the text-heavy format seen in sites such as popurls and Alltop. I even put together a similar site for the Des Moines Register, just so that I could browse our headlines in a manner I found comfortable. Though there aren’t any images, I think I prefer it because it is so simple and easy to quickly browse the latest content.
